Studio 150 Bethlehemkerk & Keep an Eye Foundation presents:
Martí Mitjavila Trio
26 May 2022
Show time: 20.00u
Clarinetist Martí Mitjavila and bass player Simon Osuna met five years ago and have been playing together ever since. Their deep friendship reflects in the music they play together making it a sincere dialogue. Joined recently by David Puime on drums, they felt an instant connection with the way they played music and decided to become a band.
Together they explore lesser-known material from the American Songbook and own compositions by Martí. Rooted in the tradition but looking forward, this unusual chord-less clarinet trio wants to bring a new sound to old songs and explore new ideas with their original compositions.
The Martí Mitjavila Trio performed during the Jazz Festival Boca Nord and Vic Jazz Festival in Spain, the Grachtenfestival in Amsterdam, the Brebl Otis Festival in Nijmegen, were finalists in the non-completed Leiden Jazz Award (Due to Covid-19) and won the first prize of the Prinses Christina Jazz Concours 2019, which granted them a prize to perform in the North Sea Jazz Festival 2022.
Dick Oatts: “Very good facility, rich lines running through the harmony, beautiful.”
Paquito D’Rivera: “This guy from Barcelona knows how to play clarinet.”
Jorge Rossy: "...I love how he plays, a great sound, he improvises very well."
