Pathodia

September, 5th 2024
Start time: 20.00u

Comprising three talented musicians hailing from diverse backgrounds, Pathodia is a baroque ensemble created in Utrecht in 2022. It was born from their collective experience in various orchestras and ensembles. In an era when music is often confined to traditional concert halls, Pathodia was founded with the aim of bringing its exquisite music to diverse settings.
Pathodia's repertoire is a captivating journey through the 17th and 18th centuries, presenting a range of arias, sacred and instrumental pieces. Their performances feature duets and trios, allowing each musician to shine as a soloist. Through this exploration of baroque music, they tap into emotions that have transcended the centuries and resonate deeply with our contemporary lives.
The name of the ensemble, Pathodia, is a tribute to the Dutch poet and composer Constantijn Huygens and his work “Pathodia sacra et profana”. This collection of Latin Psalms, Italian Madrigals, and French court airs from the 17th century serves as inspiration for Pathodia's musical research. The name itself is a fusion of "pathos", representing the emotions and passions evoked in their audience, and "odia", meaning a sung ode or poem.
Pathodia invites you to join them on a captivating journey through the ages.
