Fantasies and Follies:

“The essence of art is to recapture the fantasy and imagination of a child”

Music written by the hands of great composers always has the innocent folly and fantasy with which a child looks upon the world. In this programme, we invite you to dive into the imagination of some of the most emblematic composers of the classical canon who, regardless of their age, manage to capture precisely this boundless fantasy. With Shostakovich's Piano Trio No. 1, a work written by a lovestruck young Shostakovitch, Turina’s inventive "Fantasia Círculo", which explores the daily cycles from sunrise to sunset which mirror the natural cycles of life, and Fauré’s mature Piano Trio, the composer's penultimate work, that despite being written in his last years still bears the joviality and energy of a young man.

Joaquín Turina: Fantasy "Círculo" for piano trio, Op. 91 (1936)
I. Amanecer (Dawn)
II. Mediodía (Midday)
III. Crepusculo (Twilight)

Gabriel Fauré: Trio in D minor, Op. 120 (1923)
I. Allegro ma non troppo
II. Andantino
III. Allegro vivo

Dmitri Shostakovitch: Trio No. 1 in C minor, Op. 8 (1923)
