Qanat Trio & Guests (live in Studio 150)
August, 29th 2024
Show time: 20.00u
The Qanat Trio emerged from a desire to craft a collection of original compositions inspired by the contemporary European jazz scene, also known as chamber jazz, and classical music. Federico Termini, a pianist, composer, and master's student at the Royal Conservatoire of The Hague, devoted the past two years to researching and composing music. His studies involved drawing inspiration from influential figures in contemporary jazz like John Taylor, Brad Mehldau,
and Shai Maestro, as well as delving into classical literature to absorb and reinterpret concepts into his own music.
The trio's repertoire encompasses arrangements of pieces by Ravel or Faurè alongside original compositions, which stem from harmonic progressions found in Brahms' music or explore cyclic patterns reminiscent of John Taylor's style or Shai Maestro's innovative approach.
Completing the trio are Damiano Vitrano on bass and Ruggero Caruso on drums, who contribute their expertise gained from experiences in Europe and the United States, enriching and interpreting the repertoire.
The trio made notable appearances as guests at the Sicily Jazz Festival in 2022 and achieved recognition as finalists in the "Gianni Lenoci International Prize" in Mesagne, Italy, and the "Bucharest International Jazz Competition" in Bucharest, Romania, in July 2023. Additionally, they reached the semi-finals of the "Isio Saba Prize" in Sardinia, Italy, in October 2023.
